carrying the world around his neck
"I see no hope of it now. But I've got to do the best I can."

deargardener:

   ”mister frodo!”

[ it hadn’t taken long for the hobbit to catch up to his master, pans and backpack all a-jiggle as he ran down the street in frodo’s wake. upon his back was a rather bulking sack of the food, blankets and water he had collected before leaving bilbo’s home, the bag decorated with various cooking instruments too that no doubt the older hobbit would be most unhappy about samwise having gone and stolen. when sam finally reached frodo he was just a fraction out of breath, heaving his words as he gasped for air. ]

“an’ where d’ya think you’re going without me?”

[ he eventually managed to say, his face naught but serious as he furrowed his brows at his friend. ]

”please don’t slip off like that again, mister frodo, for i shan’t find you so easily again.”

It didn’t take long at all, really. And he ought to have known that Sam would have followed him again, he always did. No matter where. So it was a fruitless struggle – and perhaps unfair of him, to think he could spare the younger hobbit the burden of their journey now.

Sam – " Frodo begins, a bit breathless at the sight of him barreling all but towards him, clanking with various utensils and pots that they undoubtedly wouldn’t need the closer Mordor loomed.

"You know I could not ask you to come with me. Not by word of mouth or gesture. I could not ask you before, and I will not ask you now. Surely you didn’t think I would? ” The Ringbearer said helplessly, trying to juggle his relief and his fresh guilt that Sam once again had chosen a path with perhaps no real return.

“Look at you, carrying all those things..we won’t need all of them. You won’t be able to carry them the whole journey.” A hand reached for the strap of one of the backpack’s.

“..I’m sorry, Sam. I just – I could not ask you willingly to sacrifice your safety and comfort for my sake. Now let’s look at these items…they’ll be too heavy should we meet chase.”
