He..kind of just left life as he knew it. What’s kind of awful is that the Frodo he was before really did die at Mt. Doom. So what was left was a person who couldn’t bear to be around the memories of the person he had been that had been sacrificed so the world could survive. So it’s really the ultimate sacrifice.

And yes he left his baby cousins and his Sam. :(
