"I should like to save the Shire, if I could - though there have been times when I thought the inhabitants too stupid and dull for words, and have felt that an earthquake or an invasion of dragons might be good for them. But I don't feel like that now. I feel that as long as the Shire lies behind, safe and comfortable, I shall find wandering more bearable: I shall know that somewhere there is a firm foothold, even if my feet cannot stand there again."
"It’s an expression. It comes from ‘ze military’s use of ‘fucking affirmative’. It’s an aggrivated agreement, ‘zough people usually use it for whatever, anymore.”
"Does ‘zat lighten ‘zings up for you? I figured I’d give up on arguing because I’m done wi’z being talked to about ‘love’ and ’romance’ so ‘opefully 'zey’ll drop 'ze subject. It’s an exhausting one.”
"Ah, I see. Military here is..soldiers, correct? No different than any other race of Men in my world. I can understand that.” And he was bit excited to, to find a connection he could put together between the uniquely different residents who bore the trials alongside him. “A phrase one might use for anything then. Understandable. Though it sounds a bit odd, I imagine our phrases would, too.”
The hobbit laughed a bit, always a little delighted at the prospect of learning new things, it hadn’t changed even with all he’d lost.
“Frankly, if it helps, you aren’t the only one particularly interested in 'romance’. I’ve little interest in it when I was young, and to that I still hold.” He doubted he’d make it back to attempt to have an interest in it. He doubted any hobbit ladies would mind terribly much, seeing as how he’d made quite the reputation of being 'mad’.
